Brighton students enjoy another Festival of Ideas

Brighton’s Festival of Ideas is truly a unique opportunity for students. Where else can children try the Brazilian martial art capoeira, go scuba diving, make chainmail, create candy sushi or take part in dozens of other activities all in one day?

The event, which is in its 26th year, took place at Brighton High School on March 7. The educational fun day features hands-on learning workshops for Brighton students in grades 3 through 8. Each students participates in three workshops, each lasting 50 minutes.

The 2015 Festival of Ideas was a big hit with 740 students participating in 62 workshops taught by over 75 experts from the community. There were over 125 parent, teacher and high school student volunteers.

“Festival of Ideas is the quintessential school/community event and could not happen without the enthusiastic participation and help of everyone,” event organizer Martha Sciremammano said. “Thanks to all who make this a great event for all of our kids.”

“One student told a presenter, ‘This is the most fun I've ever had in my life!’” Sciremammano said. “Bingo — that's Festival!”
