Charlie Shuman is a Big Helping Little

Charlie Shuman is a senior at Pittsford Sutherland High School who decided to pay it forward by organizing a fundraising campaign he named “Big Helping Little.” He was inspired by a toddler, Maiya Colon, who was diagnosed with a mutation where she grows extra bones in her skin that can harden and affect her mobility. She is a patient at Lattimore Physical Therapy which is owned by Charlie’s parents.

Charlie organized a 5K race and dance marathon.  To date, his efforts helped to raise more than $3,000 for Maiya’s medical expenses.

Pittsford Central School District - Treats for Troops Pittsford Pride Surprise

The Mendon High School Diversity Club partnered with Harris Corporation this past fall for their annual Treats for Troops candy drive. The club collected over 500 pounds of candy (up from 2014’s 60 pounds) to send to current service members and veterans.

Katie Thoma, a junior at Mendon High School and member of the diversity club, helped orchestrate the candy drive and received an individual certificate of appreciation from Harris. Her father, a senior manager at Harris, picked her up from school in his full military uniform and a military Humvee to take her to Harris to receive her certificate.

Congratulations to the Mendon High School Diversity Club and to Katie!
