Pittsford CSD Student Achieves Top ACT Score

Sam Winebrake, a 2015 graduate of Sutherland High School, earned the highest possible composite score of 36 on his ACT test. Nationally, less than one-tenth of one percent of students who take the ACT earn the top score.

The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36 and a student’s composite score is the average of the four test scores. Among test takers in the high school graduating class of 2014, only 1,407 of nearly 1.85 million students earned a composite score of 36.

The Mendon High School Diversity Club partnered with Harris Corporation this past fall for their annual Treats for Troops candy drive. The club collected over 500 pounds of candy (up from 2014’s 60 pounds) to send to current service members and veterans.

Katie Thoma, a junior at Mendon High School and member of the diversity club, helped orchestrate the candy drive and received an individual certificate of appreciation from Harris. Her father, a senior manager at Harris, picked her up from school in his full military uniform and a military Humvee to take her to Harris to receive her certificate.

Congratulations to the Mendon High School Diversity Club and to Katie!
